MOOCs – Massive Open Online Courses

A MOOC is a pure online course, with potentially hundreds, if not thousands, of learners enrolled.

The idea behind it: Lecturers create learning experiences on special MOOC platforms, such as Coursera, edX and Udacity, or through a website. A typical format is several short video sequences followed by automated tests to check knowledge.

Various web applications (e.g. forum, blog, social media) can also be used for communication and exchange with and among the participants.
