24 March 2020, 9 am - 5 pm:
Concepts of Teaching and Learning, Module I
(should be attended before module II)

This course presents the knowledge and tools necessary to plan and conduct a lecture in a way that is most conducive to learning. Starting with basic psychological theories of learning, we cover the fundamental factors of good university teaching. Participants have the opportunity to plan a course following the principle of constructive alignment and discuss the benefits and challenges of outcome-oriented teaching. Furthermore, a wide variety of stimulating teaching methods are presented and experimentally adapted to the participants’ teaching settings, with a focus on both effectiveness and sustainability.

Concepts of Teaching and Learning, Module II
(should be attended after module I)

After a short review of the most important contents of Module I, this course focuses on formative and summative assessments. Administering exams is one of the core tasks of university teachers. But what makes a high quality exam, and how can examiners refine this skill? These questions are addressed, focusing on devising quality criteria for exams, constructing precise and valid questions, overcoming challenges in carrying out exams, and marking exams objectively.
