What to Expect
About the course
AI tools are becoming part of everyday teaching and learning. But knowing how they work—and when to trust them—is another matter. SKILL helps you use AI confidently, critically and responsibly.
Through short, hands-on lessons called nuggets, you’ll build practical AI skills you can use straight away. No prior knowledge or tools are required: access to a chatbot is provided within the course.
Both courses are free for students and faculty.
What you’ll learn
- Understand AI: How today’s AI tools work, explained in plain language
- Question AI: Where AI helps—and where it falls short
- Use AI Well: How to ask better questions and get more useful results
- Use AI Responsibly: How to use AI responsibly and fairly
- For instructors: how to bring SKILL into your own teaching
Can I use the materials in my own teaching?
Yes! The instructor course explains how to assign all or part of the student course, or copy individual nuggets into your own Moodle course, which lets you track your students’ progress.
How much time should I allow?
The student course has four levels, each of which takes about an hour. The instructor course covers the same four levels, plus teaching-specific nuggets, so takes a bit longer. Both courses are self-paced, so you can pause and come back at any time.
Will I receive a certificate?
Yes! Each nugget ends with a short knowledge check. Complete the course with an average score of at least 70% to receive a certificate of completion.
