About the Academy

The eScout Academy is a program designed to train student assistants to support instructors in the preparation and implementation of online teaching. The Academy starts with a fully online, self-paced course to train students in online education pedagogy, as well as in practical tools, and continues to support the student in the coming months during this crucial period as the University undergoes a digital transformation. If you have hired student assistants for courses in the summer semester and now fear that you will not be able to employ them due to the closure of the University, these students can be trained in our course.

Content and Teaching Methods

Training for eScouts to support instructors currently covers the following topics:

  • Supervision of online tutorials
  • Post-processing of instructional videos (e.g. editing, subtitles, chapter marks, fade-ins and fade-outs)
  • Implementing online teaching elements in Moodle based on course design

If you are interested in additional topics, please let us know! More material is planned to be added in the coming weeks.

The eScout Academy course is fully online, which means that all of the material can be accessed online, and self-paced, which means that students can get started at any time and learn the material in any order and at any pace that they need based on their previous knowledge and experience. Each section will have some assignments that will be required in order to complete the course, including creating and editing your own instructional video, as well as designing your own Moodle course. We expect the current workload to be about 2 weeks, of 10 hours per week. At the end of the course, you will be able to support professors and lecturers in creating and running online lectures, tutorials, and seminars. No grade will be given for this course, rather, you will receive a certificate of completion from ProLehre | Medien und Didaktik.

Registration is now open. While the course was originally designed for students, it is now available to any member of our TUM community, who is involved with teaching, and is preparing to go online during the upcoming SoSe. Please follow this link to self-enroll in the course.
