The eScout Academy is a program designed to train student assistants to support instructors in the preparation and implementation of online teaching. In the SoSe 2020, the Academy was a fully online, self-paced course to train students, faculty, and staff in emergency remote teaching, and provided continual support to the Universitiy during this crucial period, as the University underwent a digital transformation.
In the WiSe 2020/21, we will refocus on digital teaching pedagogy and tools. The course will be fully online, with regular in-person networking activities, as the hygiene regulations allow. If you have hired student assistants for courses in the winter semester, these students can be trained as eScouts. In addition, non-employed students may enroll in this course as an opportunity for professional development.
Training for eScouts to support instructors will cover the following topics:
- Moodle course design
- Instructional videos
- Supervision of online tutorials
- Active learning
The eScout Academy course is fully online, semester-long course (about 2 hours of effort per week), with optional, regular, in-person networking events, as the pandemic allows. The course material will be made available for students to study at their own pace (self-paced). In addition, each unit will have some assignments that will be required in order to complete the course and earn a certificate, including creating and editing your own instructional video, as well as designing your own Moodle course. These interactive activities are thus instructor-paced, and will be due about every 2-3 weeks. By the end of the course, you will be able to support professors and lecturers in creating and running online or hybrid lectures, tutorials, and seminars. No grade will be given for this course, rather, you will receive a certificate of completion from ProLehre | Medien und Didaktik.
