December 11, 2018, 1 – 7 pm: Teaching Competence: Requirements and Documentation
The entire workshop is based on the competence development model for university lecturers. The 4 stages of competence development can serve as an orientation of how to deal with an ever increasing complexity when teaching at university. As a guideline it helps to shape the individual academic talent development of a teaching researcher/scientist, thus focusing on establishing effective in-depth learning at university. Challenging teaching cases are discussed with respect to the 4 stages and means of personal development from one stage to the next are presented and adapted to the individual´s situation. Finally the participants will be introduced to the teaching portfolio, a necessary requirement for the final tenure evaluation, and use the above competence development model to structure their documentation of teaching tasks and assets.

February 18, 2019, 2 – 6 pm: Authentic Presentations in the Lecture Hall
Presenting in front of a large audience in a big lecture hall is different to presentations in front of small groups. It seems to be impossible to “catch” the whole crowd. Is that true? In this workshop we will try out different strategies how to use the entire stage in a large lecture hall to get our message across and to interactively involve a large audience in our presentation. The focus of this presentation training will be for each participant to improve her/his presentation skills in challenging settings.

March 11, 2019, 9 am - 5 pm: Concepts of Teaching and Learning, Module II
(should be attended after module I)

After a short review of the most important contents of T1 we will focus on formative and summative assessments. Giving exams is one of the core tasks of university teachers. But what makes a high quality examination and how can I optimize my own performance as an examiner? These questions are dealt with by looking at important aspects of planning, conducting, and grading examinations. Topics will be for example: quality criteria of exams, constructing precise and valid questions, typical problems in carrying out exams, or how to mark and grade examinations objectively. The participants are asked to bring module descriptions of one of their current courses as well as the relevant exam papers/questions.
